Today on American Soil

Touchdown

The wheels of the airplane unfolded and my chanting became fervent. Skies looked blue, the sun was shinning but my thoughts were with my dog M, who was in the undercarriage of the plane.

I closed my eyes and told myself we ll be fine, not knowing what that meant. The wheels touched down at the San Francisco Airport, the plane shook accelerating on the run way and my mind raced, what am I going to do?

That was November 6th, 2022.

M and I had arrived safely and were alive.

One day at a time I said to myself, through tears of gratitude to the universe and my daughter R who came to pick us at the airport. She drove us to the hotel, one suitcase in hand with 2 bras, a few panties, a pressure cooker, one pair of trousers, 2 shirts and lots of hats I had crocheted and yarn and yes, my Krishna and gods all wrapped up.

That’s all I owned.

That’s all I had

This is how I began

Today would be 4 months on American soil

Today I feel strong enough to write

Today I want to tell my story

Thank you for listening!

About Me

An English diarist and naval administrator. I served as administrator of the Royal Navy and Member of Parliament. I had no maritime experience, but I rose to be the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under both King Charles II and King James II through patronage, diligence, and my talent for administration.
